The O’Keefe – Parrott Debate
Maryland Dream Act: YES or NO
PARTICIPANTS
The challenger is John Cavanaugh-O’Keefe, a long-time pro-life activist, researcher, writer, teacher. Cavanaugh-O’Keefe has written extensively about eugenics for decades, and more recently about immigration. He is the Chairman of Support Maryland’s Dream Act, a ballot issue committee.
Support Maryland’s Dream Act is the second (of two) ballot issue committees in Maryland formed to support an education bill passed in 2011, to help ensure that the state’s workforce is educated, including students from immigrant families who are willing and able to pursue higher education. Chairman: John Cavanaugh-O’Keefe. Treasurer: Michael J. Thornett.
Support Maryland’s Dream Act was formed to address the concerns of a specific group. Some Maryland voters hold religious views that are in collision with their political views. Our intent is provide challenge and clarity for people in this situation. More explicitly, there are some people who are serious about following the teaching of the Bible and the Church, but who are planning to vote against the Dream Act. You can’t do both.
All comments and questions should be directed to John Cavanaugh-O’Keefe, at cavanaughokeefe@gmail.com.
(Maryland’s first and far larger ballot issue committee that supports the Dream Act is Educating Maryland Kids. See info@educatingmdkids.org.)
THE CHAMPION OF RESTRICTION
Del. Neil C. Parrott is one of the leaders of the fight against the Dream Act. He is the head of Petitions.com, which has taken strong positions on two issues of great importance to the churches in Maryland – immigration and marriage.
Mr. Parrott has – so far (day 1) – declined to debate. When (if) he decides to defend his position and explain how it can be considered Christian, he will probably fill out his biography here.
Some information about him is available from the State House, where he serves. http://www.msa.md.gov/msa/mdmanual/06hse/html/msa15441.html
